Previous blogs I mentioned how a bag of potatoes goes a long way. I may buy a bag for a specific dish, then use what I have left for a later dish. Potatoes are so versatile in the kitchen. And, of course, make some of the best side dishes like: mashed potatoes, scalloped potatoes, fried potatoes, and baked.
These hasselback potatoes are very easy to make. And you will only need a few ingredients. Hasselback potatoes are whole potatoes sliced halfway on the top. Then they are baked until crispy and golden. These potatoes will take about 1 hour to bake 5-6 potatoes. Let’s jump into this easy baked potato recipe.
Ingredients
- 5-6 Yukon Gold Potatoes( perfect for this recipe, Can substitute with russet potatoes)
- At least 1/2 of melted butter
- 2 cloves of fresh garlic chopped/ or use minced
- Seasonings used: onion powder, black pepper, sea salt, parsley, paprika ( 1tbsp of each)
How to make Hasselback Potatoes
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees
- Rinse potatoes with cool water and place in a bowl of cool water until you are ready for the next step. (You can peel the potatoes, this is optional)
- Pat dry potatoes with a paper towel. Take a knife and slice the top of the potatoes thin, at least 3/4 way down. You want the potato to still be intact. (if you have wooden cooking sticks available, use those to help keep the potato steady while slicing)
- Combine melted butter, fresh garlic, and seasonings together. Brush this mixture all over the potatoes. Then, place the potatoes on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil or parchment paper( give each potato space to cook).
- Place in oven uncovered for about 50 minutes. After 50 minutes, check potatoes to see if they are crispy. Add 10 more minutes of baking time if needed.
