Homestyle Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes

Scalloped Potatoes is a easy side to make. This side dish is definitely one of my favorites. If you are tired of the store brand scallop potatoes, follow these easy steps to make them homemade. Plus, home cooked food is always better. These potatoes are so cheesy and creamy, baked to perfection! Simple ingredients that you may already have in your pantry. Let’s get into the recipe.

Seasonings used:

garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper,garlic and herb,goya chicken flavor, red pepper flakes, paprika

Serving Idea

This side dish goes great with plenty meals; bbq chicken, cabbage, greens, ribs, steak, salads…hook it up! Throw some bacon bits on top while baking uncovered.

Ingredients

  • 5-6 potatoes (suggestion, Yukon Gold potatoes

  • 1/2 cup of flour

  • 1 cup of milk

  • 2-3 cups of Mild or sharp cheddar cheese

  • 1/2 stick of butter

Directions

  • First, peel and rinse off your potatoes. Then slice potatoes thin, should have nice round size slices.
  • Next, season your potatoes with about a tablespoon of each seasonings listed or season to your liking. Place your sliced and seasoned potatoes to the side.
  • Now, start your cheese sauce. In a medium or small pot, add butter, let melt on low heat, then whisk in flour until dissolved. Now add milk slow whisking until it starts to thicken (add milk as needed)and add about 1-2 cups of cheddar cheese. Mixing on medium low until a thick cheese sauce. Turn off heat and set to the side.
  • Preheat oven to 350 Degrees
  • Next, in your baking dish, grease bottom, then start to add your seasoned potatoes. You should have two layers of potatoes. First layer potatoes,add cheese sauce, covering potatoes, and add some more cheddar cheese. Add another layer of cheese sauce across your second layer. Then add cheddar cheese to cover top. Add paprika on top if your choose.
  • Place dish lid or aluminum foil over dish, put in oven for about 40 minutes, checking if cheese has melted, if cheese has started melting , bake uncovered for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
