How to make Smooth and Creamy Grits

Do you know how to make the perfect grits? There are so many things I can say about grits! One of those things for sure is that it’s delicious. I have been eating this dish since I was a little girl. I grew up eating grits for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. That’s how versatile this dish is. You can enjoy a nice creamy bowl by itself. Or you can turn it into a delicious side or main entree. One of my favorite meals, is a hot piece of fried fish with a side of grits. If that’s not your thing don’t worry there are so many ways you can enjoy. Popular way to enjoy grits is definitely at breakfast time! Grab your favorite breakfast meat and a fluffy side of eggs, with creamy grits to complete it. The method I use is very easy. You will have a warm creamy pot of grits in less than 30 minutes. Let’s jump into the recipe.

Add a 1/2 cup of milk or heavy cream to make more creamy

Smooth Creamy Grits

Ingredients

  • 1-2 cups of Grits (quick or old fashion) *quick grits will take only up to 5-8minutes to cook*

  • at least 1/2 stick Butter

  • 1 1/2 cup of Water (add more water if needed)

  • 1 tbsp of Chicken bouillon (optional) Taste absolutely delicious!

  • 1/2 cup-Cheddar or 3-4 slices ofAmerican cheese (optional)

Directions

  • First, rinse grits with cold water. You can do this by adding grits to pot then running cold water over grits then draining out water, repeat about 2-3 times.
  • Cover grits with cold water, turn stove to medium high so that water can come to a boil, Add chicken bouillon at this time if you want. Stir the grits!
  • Then reduce heat to low and let the grits pop, and add butter(or add butter when done). Make sure to keep stirring while water is starting to evaporate. This should take a total of 12-15 minutes
  • Last step is to add cheese if you desire, give it a stir. Turn Stove off or reduce to low/warm heat.
