Baked Spaghetti

Baked spaghetti is the perfect classic meal! This casserole is made with spaghetti pasta and meat sauce mixed together. The spaghetti mix is layered in a casserole dish with cheese. Then baked until it’s crispy on top and soft inside. It’s super easy to make and a way to change up spaghetti night. This comfort dish can be made with ground beef, turkey, or sausage. Also, the cheeses used are really up to you. Some like to layer this baked spaghetti with ricotta. This will give it more of a lasagna vibe. There are many ways to tweak this recipe. Just go with your taste buds. Let’s jump into the recipe.

Drained spaghetti pasta

Ingredients

  • 1 lb of lean ground beef

  • 2- 24oz jars of your favorite pasta sauce

  • 1 1lb box of spaghetti pasta

  • 1 yellow onion

  • 1 green bell pepper

  • 1 tbsp of fresh or minced garlic

  • 1- 8oz bag of cheddar cheese

  • 1 – 8oz bag of mozzarella cheese

  • at least 2 tbsp of olive oil or your choice of cooking oil

Directions

  • In a pan add olive oil, heat, then add chopped onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Saute vegetables for about 2 minutes then add ground beef. Season ground beef with seasonings mentioned in details or your own seasoning blend. Drip oil off of ground beef if needed and set to the side when done.
  • Boil water for spaghetti pasta. This is optional, I add olive to water when it starts to boil. Also, I break the pasta in half before adding to boiling water. Drain pasta when done and set to the side.
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • In a pot or mixing bowl, mix together pasta sauce, ground beef, and spaghetti pasta. This is optional, add a hand full of cheddar or mozzarella. Mix everything together good.
  • Spray casserole or aluminum foil pan with cooking spray or rub olive oil. You are going to make two layers of spaghetti. After adding first layer, add mozzarella and cheddar. Then add last layer on top. Cover with more mozzarella and cheddar cheese.
  • Cover casserole dish with lid or aluminum foil, let bake for 50 minutes. Then bake uncovered for about 10-15 minutes. Let cool for at least 5 minutes then serve.
