Tender and Juicy Slice of Cube Steak

This simple and easy recipe is great for weeknight or Sunday dinners. The way I cook these steaks to make them juicy and tender is so easy. First I massage the meat with my hands, and then season it. Then roll the steaks in a light coat to place in hot grease. After frying, these steaks I place it in a homemade onion gravy. Then on low they simmer until they are tender and ready to go over rice or mashed potatoes. Hungry yet?. Let’s jump into the recipe!

How to make Cube Steaks

Directions

  • First prep the steaks and get your onion diced or chopped. Prepare steaks by massaging with hand, then season both sides.
  • Next, lightly coat steaks with flour.
  • In a frying pan add oil, only enough to cover bottom. Turn stove on medium high heat. When oil is hot start adding cube steak. Let fry for about 5 minutes on each side. Place to the side to soak off oil when done.
  • Now prepare onion gravy. I Make my onion gravy in the same pan I fried the steaks in. Remove any extra flour coatings if you like. Then turn stove down to medium heat and add onion to pan. Let the onions saute for about 2 minutes.
  • Then add about 2-3 tbsp of flour ( I honestly don’t measure this part it depends on how thick you want the gravy), mix until a smooth roux. Slowly add Beef broth and stir while adding. Add more broth if needed and keep stirring. Turn stove down some when you get the gravy to your liking.
  • While gravy is simmering start adding Cube Steak, take a spoon and move some of the gravy over the steak. Let simmer/cook in gravy for at least 10 minutes. Turn stove off and serve.
