Hamburger Steaks and Gravy

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs ground beef

  • 1/2 cup of bread crumbs

  • 1 egg

  • 1 green bell pepper

  • 1 yellow onion

  • 1 packet of Beef bouillon or 2 tbsp if you don’t have packets

  • 2 tbsp of flour

  • At least 1 cup of Water

  • Vegetable oil

  • 2 tbsp worcestershire sauce (optional)

  • 1 tbsp of browning seasoning (optional)

Ground beef mixed with all ingredients

Directions

  • First, prepare ground beef by chopping up one bell pepper. I try to dice up bell pepper small but this is totally up to you. Add to a mixing bowl: ground beef, bell peppers, bread crumbs, worcestershire sauce, and seasonings.
  • Take your hands and mix everything together (if your prefer use a spoon or gloves), then make hamburger pattys. Then set your pattys to the side.
  • Now, take out a frying pan and add cooking oil, cover bottom. Turn stove on medium high heat. When oil starts to heat, add hamburger pattys. Cook on both sides for at least 5-7 minutes. Take out and place to the side on paper towel to drain oil off. (Medium well is great for this dish, it will finish off in gravy step)
  • After you take pattys out, (remove extra oil if needed from pan) add chopped onion to pan, and turn stove down to medium low heat. Saute onions for at least 2 minutes, then add flour to make a roux. Mix flour into the onions until flour is dissolved. Mix water and beef bouillon together, then add it to the pan. Stir until you have a gravy to your liking , Add more water as needed.
  • Add hamburger steaks into the pan of gravy, and take a spoon to move gravy on top of hamburgers. Let hamburgers simmer in gravy on low for at least 10 minutes covered.
